Barack Obama himself did not expect to get the coveted Nobel Peace Prize for the year, but the awarding did happen few days back to the surprise of over 50% of the American citizens. We need to first understand that Obama inherited a pathetic backlog on all economic and global peace issues.
He had to tackle a tough Iran and North Korea, and his efforts in bringing both these countries to negotiation seems to be paying off. We cannot expect him or anybody else for that matter, to bring these arrogant countries to negotiation table within a year or two.
He also has taken some bold initiatives on the Israel-Palestine front and we need to give credit to his special efforts for the present reduction in tension levels in the region. He might eventually succeed in promoting peace in the region in the long run.
Also his efforts on bringing the Muslim world to get into believing the western world is also making some headway.
He has also been able to get Russia into believing US, by abandoning the missile shield plan near Russian bordering European countries.
And Obama has vowed to double up his special efforts for world peace in the remaining four years of his tenure, for which we all need to wish him all the very best.
