There are right things to do and there are times when anything which works is right as long as it works out for you. These are two different schools of thought. For example, if you want to use the right kind of cartridge ink for your printer, then, you are doing the right thing. However, in the place of using the hewlett packard ink, you end up using some ink which can do the job as well, then what you are doing ends up being the right thing for you.

The distinction is important thought it is not much. It looks like splitting hair and at times it is one. But, the point is simple. If you approach anything from the view of end results, then you look at things from one school of thought compared to when you look at things from the point of view of process and doing the right things where you re much more the process person.

What gives better results in life?

To my mind, doing the right things at most of the steps possible, is the way to go. The reason is simple. You don’t really control the results. You don’t know how things will turn up when you go through something. Hence, you cannot really be doing something and based on how it turned out, say that it was the way to do things. It may not even be replicable for all I know.

However, if you have followed certain process and that process gives you certain results, then one can be confident that more often than not, if one follows those processes, one will get the results.

That is why the certification processes such as the ISO and all that work very well with ensuring that the processes get documented. When you document them, the same is available for scrutiny.
