US banking industry to see another big shakeout
The US banking industry is most likely to see another big shakeout in the coming months, only because of the rising bad debts. The US FDIC has closed down over 120 banks in the year 2009 to date, which is nearly five times the 25 banks closed down in the entire year 2008.
But the troubled and weak banks count is only climbing up further. As per US FDIC data, as of September 2009 , over 550 banks are weak in US which control nearly 5% of the total banking assets. And quite a few of them can collapse in the coming months, as US FDIC has already shored up the reserve capital.
