US regulators close two more banks this week…2009 total at 55
The entire year 2008 saw 28 US banks being closed down, which was a record ever since record was maintained. Now 2009 looks to be dwarfing that with 55 bank closures done already in the first six and a half months.
The US regulators closed down two small banks, one each in Georgia and South Dakota this week, due to huge write offs. These two banks have now been put under the US FDIC control till a suitable takeover candidate is found.
