The election race which is just a few weeks ahead showed the British liberal democrats in first place. British Liberal Democrats is UK’s third largest party showed the ratings soar. The election is expected to take place during May 6 and fresh polls on Sunday showed these ratings. A strong performance which is being performed by the Democrats leader Nick Clegg helped the support. The Thursday debate on election by Britain’s party leaders on television surged further more support.

BPIX poll was reported in the Mail newspaper showed Lib Dems up 12% over the past week to 32%.The Conservatives down seven at 31% and Labour down three at 28% the Sunday Mail reported .BPIX conducted a survey among 2,149 people during Saturday and Friday to the new poll. The electoral system could see the PM Gordon Brown in the pole position despite his third position in the popular vote. The figures will still put Labour on the 276 seats reported BCC seat calculator and 50 short of majority .BBC’s seat calculator reported Conservatives on226 and Lib Dems on 119 further.

Clegg said” something exciting is happening, a growing number of people are just starting to believe that we can do something different” to the SKY news. British political system has seen the Conservatives and Labour trade power for the best part of last 100 years. The founder of pollesters MORI said that the election has been static up to now but now it’s electric. The Democrats were in sideshow but after the Thursday debate they are in centre stage. A major fight is now faced by the opposition Conservatives to stop the crucial floating voters.

The Obama administration initially said that it would pursue a friendly co-operation with Iran provided it reciprocates. And in the last one year, the new US administration has found no change in Iran’s attitude, and more so it has expedited the Nuclear related activities.
So US has now decided to pursue stricter UN sanctions against Iran in the coming days, for which it is in the process of mustering support of the entire world. Russia, China and France are not agreeing to the US measures and are expecting slightly slower pace of sanctions against Iran.
These three countries have commercial relationship with Iran which would be badly hit if the sanctions are passed. Hence US may need to do more to convince these three major countries to agree on new Iran sanctions.

The ruling LDP lead by Aso has faced a crushing defeat in the local Tokyo elections where people voted squarely against LDP and also its coalition partners.
This has lead to the LDP lead government planning to call for a countrywide general elections on or before 30th August 2009. The continuing economic turmoil has pushed down Japan into a deeper recession than what people expected. There has been massive increase in unemployment across Automobile and electronic industries which are key to Japan’s industrial performance.
Even in the coming elections, Aso’s LDP may not perform well and might as well prepare to sit in the opposition desk.

The country of Iran , which is part of the rich OPEC belt, has been always at the center of regional news for over three decades. Three decades back , Iranian people showed a major uprising against a powerful dictator, who was thrown out and Ayatollah Khameneni took charge.
Since then Khamaneni is the supreme leader of the country with the highest powers, which he has been using effectively in guiding Iran on fundamental lines with clear anti-west policies.
And five years back, a poor village person, Ahmedinejad fought the Presidential elections by stoking fundamental issues and also anti-west propaganda, and became Iran President with a clean majority.
The election system in Iran is unique, in the sense that the Presidential candidate is declared winner only if he gets more than 50% of the polled votes.
Iran has been going through a really tough economic situation, even when crude oil was quoting at 100 plus dollars. Iran has been deprived of basic crude oil processing facilities , which is why it remains the only Arab country to import diesel and petrol, even though it produces crude oil equivalent to over 5 times of the diesel and petrol it consumes annually.
Ahmedinejad has been stoking the anti-west rhetoric further in the last few years, and has put few more million Iranians below the poverty line. That is why the current Presidential elections were expected to help moderate forces to regain power in Iran.
The huge rallies for the moderate candidate Moulavi, were seen as a reflection of that. But the election results that were announced a week back, showed that Moulavi only got 34% of the polled votes, while Ahmedinejad got 63% of the votes. That is what has shocked the entire country of Iran, and since the announcement of results protests are being held everywhere , and over 100000 people participated in yesterday’s peace rally in Tehran, Iran capital.
The Iranian spiritual leader Khamaneni has ordered for part recounting of the votes, which the people of Iran might again reject since that may not be enough to get victory for Moulavi. Given the strong anti-west thoughts of the supreme Leader Khameneni, Moulavi supporters might not get a fair treatment this time.
Iran is sitting on the world’s largest reserve of natural gas, but it is not in a position to capitalize it only because of lack of adequate investment by the western countries into Iran, because the western governments have officially banned any investment by their citizens or companies into Iran.

The North Korean government has termed US President Obama as a hypocrite, and said that nuclear program is not the prerogative of US alone. It criticized US for piling up thousands of nuclear weapons, and asking other countries to avoid making nuclear weapons.
North Korea also said that it will retaliate one hundred to one thousand times, if any provocative action is taken on it by US or Japan or South Korea. It said that it will retaliate with full force and does not rule out firing nuclear missiles.
North Korea is also said to have started withdrawing funds from Macau, due to fears that the money could be frozen anytime by UN.
It is also said to be preparing for another nuclear test in the coming weeks. It is also said to be preparing for testing of two long range missiles with nuclear capabilities, which can hit South Korea / Japan and even deep into United States of America.
Russia which shares border with North Korea, has reacted promptly by saying that it is ready for shooting down any missile that gets into its territory from North Korea.
The UN has sanctioned powers to all member countries to stop and search any North Korean ship in high seas, if they are suspected to carry any nuclear material. North Korea has strongly objected to this, and has said that if any of its ship is stopped in the high seas, it will retaliate with full military force on those countries working against it.
So far China has been strongly supporting North Korea from behind the scenes, but after the blatant violation by North Korea on the nuclear issue, has forced China to get out of the scene and support the UN resolution against North Korea. It is important to note that even after the UN resolution, China has remained a mute spectator and it has not spoken a single word against the North Korean regime.

The Obama administration started its governance of the US in a tough situation, and in the first six months of its tenure it saw the economic indicators crashing to new lows and then slowly recovering from the bottom levels.
And with the near collapse of all the big banks and lending institutions and also AIG, the government wanted to have a thorough overhaul of the monitoring mechanism and also the regulatory powers.
And few weeks back, US FED made it clear to the government that it has to work on reducing the budget deficit and stop borrowing recklessly. Now the Obama administration is seemingly replying to that by curbing US FED powers and also adding more responsibilities to it.

The Iranian polling authorities have declared that the present President Ahmedinejad has won the Presidential polls comfortably with a 63% vote share, while his competitor Moulavi got only 34% of the votes.
Immediately after the results were announced, there were cases of violent protest by Moulavi supporters, who were fired upon with plastic bullets by the security forces.
The winning of Ahmedinejad with good majority would also mean more trouble for the US and Western world. Ahmedinejad is likely to seriously pursue the nuclear ambitions, and he might also support anti-isreal insurgents in a big way.
The Obama administration might still try for breaking the deadlock with Iran, which now squarely depends on the wish and attitude of Ahmedinejad.
Ahmedinejad has been very open in saying that Israel must be wiped out of the global Map , and he is also not willing to take the new US government promises at face value. But he is also facing a huge unemployed population, and a bigger part of the Rural poor who do not get even two meals a day.
These things might compel him to look at improving the business relationship with US, if he is really interested in improving the quality of life for the millions of Iranians who voted for him.

North Korea has conducted two underground nuclear tests despite repeated warnings from US and Japan. The North Korean regime has been taking aggressive posture in the last two months. First it tested a long range missile under the guise of a satellite launch.
Later on it sent out the UN nuclear inspectors out of its country and also started production of missile grade uranium. Now it has widened the gap with the US / Japan / South Korea , by going in for two under ground nuclear tests.
There are experts who say that North Korea is working under the guidance of China, which wants to reassert itself in the world order. It is better for China to use indirect ways of improving its global status, than risking direct confrontation with US and Europe.
North Korea getting into aggressive weapon grade nuclear production and also sprucing up its long range nuclear capable missiles, are a real threat not only to US / Japan and South Korea, but to the entire world. North Korea is capable of selling these nuclear loaded missiles to other fundamentalist rogue countries which has to stopped at all costs.
