England is competing with a number of countries, including Spain-Portugal, Russia, US and Netherlands-Belgium, to host the global football tournament. Its bid team is at Soccerex in South Africa ahead of Friday’s 2010 cup draw. “We would be the most commercially successful World Cup that Fifa could ever ask for,” said England 2018 chief executive Andy Anson. “The English football market is the probably the most mature commercial market in existence.” He said the evidence could be seen in the continuing large television revenues English football was securing and in its large commercial deals, such as the recent sponsorship contract signed by Liverpool with Standard Chartered Bank.

The Ashes 2009 series has started on a good note for the England team, when the tail ending pair fighting it out for over 40 minutes and save a certain defeat at the hands of the mighty Australian team.
The Australian team was dominant right from day one and in the first innings alone they scored over 670 runs, which the England team could not match. Put to follow on , the England team continued losing wickets at regular intervals, and the Australian team was almost certain of winning the game , but fate had other plans.
Better luck in the next match to Ricky Ponting and his men, to be played at Lord’s Ground. Australian team has never lost a test match at Lord’s cricket ground since history is tracked, so we can expect Australian team to perform to their full potential and beat the England team convincingly , without any slip between the cup and the lip.

Roger Federer cannot ask for more. The historical record is just a match away for him, which can help him reach the record 15th Grand Slam title.
Roger Federer has sailed through to the finals with ease and he has a weaker opponent in Andy Roddick for the finals, to be held today.
If you go purely by track record, between these two so far 20 matches have been played and Federer has won 18 times. And at Wimbledon Federer has won all the three times he faced Roddick. So let us only hope that Federer does not allow anything extra ordinary to happen today, and lose the match.

The countdown is in the last lap now for Roger Federer. He has reached the Wimbledon 2009 finals with ease, and he is just one step away from reaching his 15th Grand Slam Title.
That will help him surpass Pete Samparas record of 14 Grand Slam Titles to his name.
Roger Federer has been having luck work his way in this year Wimbledon tournament, because his powerful opponent Rafel Nadal bowed out due to injury. That left Federer with literally no opposition at all. Every match he played so far, had been a easy cake walk for him.
Let us wish him all the best for reaching the coveted 15th Grand Slam Title in style, without having a slip between the cup and the lip.

Roger Federer already has 14 grand slam titles to his name, which is equal to the great Pete Samparas.
Roger Federer could have reached 17 or 18 grand slam titles by now, had there been no offensive from Rafel Nadal in the last three years.
Nadal screwed the ambitions of Roger Federer by beating him at the French Open and also at the Wimbledon last year. But this year Wimbledon , has given Roger Federer another rare chance to get his 15th Grand Slam title, because Rafel Nadal has decided not to contest this time for Wimbledon title, due to injuries.
All that Federer needs to do is to play his natural game, and be little more careful against Andy Murray, who has beaten him four times in the last two years.
If Roger Federer fails to get the Wimbledon title this year, he may have to face much more tougher situations in the other grand slams in the future, because few more young stars would emerge on the scene. Add to this the fact that his noted nightmare Rafel Nadal also will be back in the fray in another one or two months.
So this is almost a do or die battle for Roger Federer , if he is really particular about overtaking Pete Samparas.
We wish all the very best to Roger Federer for a great and memorable Wimbledon this year.

The Twenty-Twenty format of world cup cricket is happening in UK and has so far thrown up lot of surprises already. The world champions in Cricket for the last two decades, the Australians, were sent of in the qualifying round itself.
Then the last T-20 champion cup winner , The Indian team, was sent out before reaching quarter finals last week.

Yesterday, the favorites, the South African team, were sent out of the tournament by a relatively weak Pakistan team in the first semi-finals. This has helped the Pakistan team to enter the finals to be held on Sunday.
The second semi-final match is happening today between West Indies team and the Sri Lankan team. Sri Lankan team scored a healthy 158 runs , by batting first.
West Indies might find it difficult to win the match, given the slow movement of the ball in the last ten overs. The winning team of today’s match will fight the final match versus Pakistan on Sunday.
Two decades back, people used to watch only five day matches , and West Indies team was the leader always. But in the 1990s , the one day matches with 50 overs for each team, became more popular.
And in the last two years, a further short version of the game i.e, 20 overs for each team, became popular, and is set to dominate the cricket lovers for another decade at least.
